Prescott and Ellsworth both go 1-1 at Prescott Invitational

Division I Green Bay Preble came away the winner of the 2012 Prescott Invitational prep baseball event Saturday. The Hornets edged Prescott 3-1 and handed Ellsworth its first loss of the season 10-0.

PRESCOTT - Division I Green Bay Preble came away the winner of the 2012 Prescott Invitational prep baseball event Saturday. The Hornets edged Prescott 3-1 and handed Ellsworth its first loss of the season 10-0.

The Cardinals were held to just two hits against Preble, by Brandon Keiper and Derrick Munsen. Logan Johnson scored their lone run.

Ellsworth first's loss was a shutout as the Hornets stung them 10-0 in five innings. EHS was held to just one hit while Preble plated four runs in the first and fourth innings. Preble improved to 6-3 overall.

Eau Claire Regis was a whipping post for both the Cardinals and Panthers. Ellsworth topped the Ramblers 12-0 and Prescott smothered them 15-1 in two five-inning contests.

EHS jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Regis and added four more in the third. Brady Schroeder drove in three runs for Ellsworth and Tyler Marson had four RBIs. Regis also committed seven errors. Travis Kroll was the winning pitcher.

PHS had 12 hits against ECR led by Billy Brookshaw's 4-for-4 performance at the plate with three runs, four RBIs and a double. Five Prescott players scored twice three players had two hits. Alex Helmer hit a double for the Cardinal.

Ellsworth hosts Osceola on Tuesday while Prescott takes on St. Croix Falls Monday. The team's Middle Border Conference showdown is set for Thursday at Firehall Field in Prescott at 5 p.m.
