PRESCOTT, Wis. - Ellsworth High School's boys' basketball team held a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter against Prescott Thursday. But the Cardinals surged to outscore the Panthers 21-7 to win this Middle Border Conference contest in overtime 63-58.

Ellsworth led for much of the contest, using tough defense and outside shooting to go in front by as many as nine points at 51-42 of a near-capacity crowd inside the PHS gymnasium.

But fatigue from limited reserves led to turnovers and foul trouble which allowed the Cardinals (13-5 overall and 7-4 in the Middle Border Conference) to get back in the ballgame off the scoring of freshman Clay Seifert, who finished with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and big 6-4 junior center Nick Jacobsen who finished with 20 points. PHS point guard Billy Brookshaw also had 16 points, including a key trifecta early in the overtime which gave Prescott the lead 53-50 which turned out to be for good.

Alex Campbell led Ellsworth (10-7 overall, 6-5 in the MBC) in scoring with 16 points. EHS's Lemoine Steffen scored 10 points, Travis Kroll scored nine points, Adam Kearns scored eight points and Jake Betthauser also had eight points.

Ellsworth's next game is Tuesday at home vs. Somerset while Prescott is at Durand.
