The Dawn McPherson home at N4175 610th Ave. in the town of Ellsworth was badly damaged by a fire Monday evening.
Authorities received a call from a neighbor who saw flames about 10 p.m. The first sheriff's deputy heading to the scene told the dispatcher she could see flames from Hwy. 10, more than a mile away.
When Ellsworth Fire and Ambulance crews arrived, they were uncertain whether the two-story home was occupied. A neighbor had shut off an LP tank outside the house prior to the fire department's arrival. It wasn't until about 10:20 p.m. that the homeowner arrived and verified there was no one in the house.
A witness said there was loss of animal life, possibly chickens. Three persons were displaced by the fire including McPherson, Rebecca Eckert and her child.
Pierce-Pepin Electric Cooperative was called to assist with disconnecting power.
Pierce County land records indicate improvements on the 1.55 acre parcel are valued at $142,300. The house is about a mile west of CTH DD and about 2.5 miles southeast of Ellsworth village limits.
The fire remains under investigation.
