Spotlight: Goodhue Volksfest 2017

Goodhue's Volksfest is the unofficial kickoff to a summer full of festivals, fairs and fun. This year the fest falls June 9-11.

Created in 1982 on the simple principle that somebody wanted to have summer festival in Goodhue, Volksfest has grown into a source of community pride as well as fun.

The festivities officially start with the Miss Goodhue coronation at 7 p.m. Friday in the Goodhue School gymnasium. Admission is a Volksfest button.

The evening will wrap up with a street dance featuring Chris Hawkey. Tickets are $15.

On Saturday, the Road Rally will start at 8:45 a.m. at C-Store, the Udder Run is at 9 a.m. behind the school, the Goodhue County K9 unit demonstration at 1 p.m. and a host of activities throughout the day the 5 p.m. parade.

The Saturday headliner is Diamond Rio with an opening act by Emily Ann Roberts. Advance tickets are $25; you'll pay $35 at the gate, which opens at 6 p.m. Fireworks will explode over the stage at dusk.

Sunday is the Dad's Belgian Waffle feed in the community center.
