Heading west to the Glencoe-Silver Lake Panther Don Hall Invitational, Zumbrota-Mazeppa won the nine-team invite with a score of 179 points. Host Glencoe-Silver Lake was second with 159, followed by Kimball (155.50), Watertown-Mayer (148) and St. Clair (109).
Two Cougar grapplers – Joey Majerus and Hunter Prodzinski – took first place in their respective weight classes. Majerus won the 120-pound title after securing a 12-0 major decision over BOLD’s Brett Grund. Then at 182, Prodzinski pinned Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted’s Riley Gruenhagen in 4 minutes, 37 seconds.
Dillon Downes took second place at 160 after taking a 10-1 loss against St. Clair’s Chance Oftedahl, and Shane Bode also took second for Z-M, losing the heavyweight championship match to Prairie Valley’s Logan Nibbe, 5-4.
Four Cougar wrestlers – Hayden Stensland (106), Spencer Defrang (113), Freedom Hunt (138) and Chase Steffen (170) – had third-place finishes.
Z-M returned to action Tuesday at Dover-Eyota. Results were unavailable at press time.
