Wrestling: Wildcats maul Byron

Email News Alerts

Kaleb O’Reilly needed a sudden-victory to get past Connor Stringer Thursday night. As a team, Goodhue needed no such theatrics in disposing of Byron, 47-21.

O’Reilly’s 7-5 win came after Mariano Bigalk opened the Hiawatha Valley League dual with a 106-pound pin, 5 minutes, 38 seconds into his bout with Perrin Barber. Joel Gadient (120) followed with a decision while Bailee O’Reilly (126) and Mason Huemann (138) sandwiched pins around Matthew Lexvold’s major decision at 132 to give the Wildcats a commanding 28-0 lead through six matches.

The Bears would win half of the remaining eight matches, three by fall. But wins from the rest of Goodhue’s lineup kept Byron at bay.
