Wrestling: Goodhue picks up two big wins

With the Section 1A team tournament just around the corner, Goodhue’s appearance at the Robbinsdale Armstrong Invitational should boost some confidence.

The Wildcats trounced Mahtomdei 60-20 and then shut down Faribault 42-27. Both schools feature ranked wrestlers in Class 2A while Goodhue competes a class lower.

In the Wildcats’ final dual, Eastview, ranked No. 10 in Class 3A, put the hammer down, winning 12 matches, nine of which resulted in bonus points, in a 58-9 victory.

Mariano Bigalk (106 pounds) and Joel Gadient (120) were the only two Wildcats to go 3-0 on the day.

Goodhue will have three more chances to fine tune its skills before section competition begins Feb. 13. First up for the Wildcats is a Hiawatha Valley League dual at Byron on Thursday. Goodhue will then finish the regular season with a home triangular Friday against Pine Island and Triton.
