Wrestling: Gadient wins Flanagan title, Goodhue fifth
Two Goodhue wrestlers made the finals at the Flanagan Invitational Saturday in Crestwood, Iowa. Joel Gadient took home top honors in the 120-pound bracket while Bailee O’Reilly took a loss in the 126-pound championship.
Gadient beat Cedar Falls’ Jacob Watters, 12-4, to snag first place. Gadient outscored his opponents 29-7 in his three matches, including an 11-1 victory in the semifinals. O’Reilly was pinned by Scott West’s David Flynn at 2:57 in the title match. O’Reilly had a pin of his own in the quarterfinals, and a 10-2 win in the semifinals.
Those two finishes helped the Wildcats to a fifth-place showing as a team, totaling 131 points. Scott West won the nine-team tournament with 231 points, followed by Crestwood (205), Cedar Falls (178) and Dubuque Hempstead (132).
Goodhue’s Logan Breuer (145) and Charles Dahling (182) took third. Josh Dahling (285) placed fourth.
The Wildcats will host Pine Island and Triton Thursday for a Hiawatha Valley League triangular.
