Wrestling: Cannon Falls secures home dual
After falling behind 10-0 after two matches, Cannon Falls scored the next 25 points to pull away from Pine Island to come away with a 52-22 Hiawatha Valley League victory Thursday in Cannon Falls.
Needing to get on the board, Paul Fitterer cut the gap to 10-6 after scoring a pinfall in 2 minutes, 36 seconds over Broghen Kunz at 120 pounds. Ryan Epps tied the match with a 19-5 major decision, and Keston Lopez put Cannon Falls in the lead after winning by pinfall at 4:36 in his 132-pound match. Connor Rohr won by forfeit, and Hayden Strain concluded the Bombers’ win streak with an 8-7 decision at 145 pounds.
Derek Johnson (182) and Cooper Rohloff (heavyweight) each won by pin, and Clay Broze won a 5-0 decision at 220 pounds to seal Cannon Falls’ victory.
The 11th-ranked (2A) Bombers are off until Jan. 4 when they host a 14-team invitational.
