Wrestling: Bombers split at K-M triangular
Cannon Falls opened its triangular at Kasson-Mantorville Tuesday with a 59-15 dismantling of La Crescent. The Bombers lost just three matches against the Lancers, and one was a forfeit.
But that dual was not the main attraction. That would be the nightcap that featured the No. 10 (Class AA) Bombers and the fifth-ranked (Class AA) KoMets.
Through two matches, K-M held a 12-0 lead thanks to consecutive forfeits and 106 and 113 pounds.
When Cannon Falls finally took the mat, the lead quickly reversed. Paul Fitterer (120) and Keston Lopez (132) each recorded technical falls while Ryan Epps (126) got a pin. Connor Rohr closed the run with a 10-7 decision that gave the Bombers a 19-12 lead.
That’s when the KoMets flexed, putting the dual away with four-straight victories, including back-to-back falls by Brady and Aaron Berge at 145 and 152 pounds, respectively.
Nathan Melhouse (182) won by forfeit before Derek Johnson (195) earned a 5-4 decision. But nine points in the final two matches gave K-M the 13-point victory.
The Bombers will hit the road for their next two contests, including Thursday’s tilt in Stewartville and at Rochester Century Saturday. On Jan. 30, Cannon Falls will host Goodhue and Lake City for a "Take Down Cancer" event to help raise funds for the Randy Shaver Cancer and Community Fund.
