Wrestling: Bombers lose home tournament by tiebreaker

Kenyon-Wanamingo and Cannon Falls both finished Saturday undefeated. But unlike most dual tournaments, the two teams did not meet on the mat, instead going to the scorebooks to determine a winner at the Cannon Falls Duals Tournament.

With both teams at 3-0 on the day, the tournament title came down to total points scored against common opponents. The Bombers scored 116 combined points against Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Rochester John Marshall while the Knights scored 129, giving K-W the championship.

The Bombers opened the tournament with a 48-25 victory over Tri-City United, then followed with a 70-0 thrashing of JM. Cannon Falls’ third-round opponent, P-E-M, fared a little better than the Rockets, but the Bombers stayed on the gas pedal, toppling the Bulldogs, 46-31.

K-W beat P-E-M 57-7 in the first round, followed by victories over Hopkins (65-9) and JM (72-6).

Cannon Falls will close the regular season Thursday with a Hiawatha Valley League dual at Triton. The Section 1AA team tournament begins Feb. 13.
