The Red Wing boys and girls cross country teams placed fourth Thursday at the Dewey Minneart Invitational at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Hastings.

The boys had two runners place in the top 15 at the 5-kilometer meet. Senior Christian Leitner came in eighth with a time of 17 minutes, 46.89 seconds and senior Jordan Hassemer placed 15th at 18:23.24. The Wingers had an average time of 18:29.99.

Junior Kelsee Anderson finished 10th for the girls team with a time of 16:03.99. The girls team averaged 16:52.82 for the 4-kilometer race.

"I thought the girls ran pretty well," Red Wing head coach Jesse Nelson said. "Their margin of error is really small ... I'm really happy with the progress our girls team is making.

"We're still searching for consistency on the boys side. Younger guys need to know what it takes to run at a varsity level."

Red Wing will compete next at the Rochester Mayor Invitational at Eastwood Golf Course on Sept. 15.
