William Schmidt, 92
William LeRoy Schmidt, 92, of Plainview, Minn., passed away Saturday, May 23, at St. Marys Hospital Rochester.
Mr. Schmidt was born Nov. 4, 1916, in Lake City, Minn., to Harry and Augusta (Kuhfuss) Schmidt. He attended school in Red Wing, Minn. On July 17, 1941, he married Mildred Cotton at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. They farmed the family farm on Pepin Hill, in Lake Township rural Lake City. They then moved to Rochester, Minn., where he worked as a welder at Briese Steel and Crenlo for many years. He then worked for 15 years at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church as custodian and in maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Plainview, Minn.; two daughters, JoAnn Broten of Rochester and Judy Berg of Wabasha, Minn.; one son, Robert (Mary Beth) Schmidt of St. Paul; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Dose of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence Berg and brother George Schmidt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Father Richard Dernek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City, handled arrangements. Pallbearers are Adam Broten, Nicholas Neeland, Dominick Bahr, Lance Broten, Scott Broten Jr., Dustin Bahr, Shawn Broten, Scott Swain.
