Weather suspected in deadly crash near Hager City
A Lake City man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on snowy roads Tuesday evening on Highway 63 north of Hager City, according to authorities.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the man, Joseph Leo Lemieux, 51, was traveling north on Highway 63 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and was struck by a crossover SUV operated by Jeremy W. Freeland, 35, of Spring Valley, Wis.
Lemieux was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pierce County Medical Examiner. Freeland was transported by Ellsworth Ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with undetermined injuries.
Assisting the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was Ellsworth Fire Department, Ellsworth Ambulance Service, Wisconsin State Patrol and Red Wing Fire Department. The Pierce County Highway Department also assisted with road closure while the crash was investigated.
The Sheriff’s department said it was snowing heavy and that weather appears to have been a contributing factor.
