Volleyball: Tigers swept by Pine Island

Lake City made a furious comeback in the first set but couldn’t close out against Pine Island as the Tigers fell in three sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12, in Hiawatha Valley League play Tuesday in Pine Island.

“The first game, we came from way far behind. We were so close,” said Lake City head coach Kim Bobb. “There were times where we played the best we have all season. Then, we would make some mental errors that cost us.”

Breanna Gates finished with six kills, eight digs and two ace blocks, and Madi Green added six kills in the Tigers’ loss. Emily Ziebell had a team-high 14 digs, and Bailey Cronin finished with 13 set assists.

Lake City (0-3, 0-1 HVL) hosts Rochester Lourdes on Thursday.
