Volleyball: Lake City's season ends at Chatfield

Lake City’s season came to an end on Thursday in the first round of the Section 1AA-East playoffs as the eight-seeded Tigers were swept by top-seeded Chatfield, 25-8, 25-17, 25-11.

Lake City’s back row was busy as Breanna Gates had 13 digs, Emma Gnotke had six, and Megan Schramski tallied five in the loss. At the net, Madi Green led the team with four kills while Daynalyn Jostock finished with two.

Being the underdog in the 1-8 game is daunting enough, but the Gophers’ libero, Alexandra Duxbury, was making things even more hectic for the Tigers.

“Their libero is an All-State player and we struggled with their passing,” said Lake City head coach Kim Bobb. “We came out flat in the first game, and I don’t know why, but it was nice to come back in that second game.”

Chatfield is back in action in the sub-section semifinals Saturday against fourth-seeded St. Charles.
