Volleyball: Goodhue wins 5-set thriller
Duking it out for five sets, Goodhue out-lasted Kenyon-Wanamingo for a 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 Hiawatha Valley League victory Tuesday in Goodhue.
“The best part was it was such a good game,” Wildcats’ head coach Lindsey Mace said. “It was a battle; the girls played their hearts out. Getting the win, that makes it that much better.”
Celebrating her 1,000th career set assist on Tuesday, Mikayla Tipcke put in a strong outing with 32 set assists, 19 digs, and six kills. Mikayla Miller was Goodhue’s top swinger with 20 kills, all while adding 18 digs in the victory.
Meredith Watson had 22 digs, and libero Emilee Roschen had a match-high 42 digs from the back row.
“It’s still crazy (to see those numbers),” Mace said of her team’s defensive play. “You had to get a really strong kill in the match. It was fun to see the girls working that hard.”
The Knights had three hitters with double-digit kills led by Megan Quam’s 14 kills and three ace blocks. Mara Quam collected 26 digs, and Meg Clark tallied 40 set assists in the loss.
“It was just a fun match to play,” an exhausted Mace said afterwards.
Goodhue (7-1, 2-1 HVL) travels to Pine Island on Thursday.
