Volleyball: Goodhue grinds out win over Lourdes
Rochester Lourdes, which was in the midst of a four-game losing streak, gave Goodhue all it could handle on Thursday. But ultimately, the Wildcats overcame their sluggish outing with a five-set Hiawatha Valley League victory, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 25-27, 15-13.
“For some reason, we’re starting to doubt ourselves; we had a lot of dropped balls tonight,” said Goodhue head coach Lindsey Mace. “I don’t know if we were tired, but we weren’t the team that we normally are. … Lourdes played their butts off tonight.”
The play was less than ideal for the Wildcats’ head coach, but the result was what Goodhue wanted, thanks to big nights from Mikayla Miller and Mikayla Tipcke. Miller had 23 kills, 24 digs, two blocks and two ace serves, and Tipcke finished with 44 set assists, 28 digs and eight kills. Emilee Roschen solidified the back row with a team-high 42 digs, as well as three ace serve. Meredith Watson added 22 digs and four kills in the victory.
The Wildcats (15-4, 5-2 HVL) head to third-ranked (2A) Kasson-Mantorville on Tuesday.
