Volleyball: Goodhue falls short versus Stewartville
Goodhue got off to an electric start against second-ranked (2A) Stewartville, taking the first set of Thursday's Hiawatha Valley League match 26-24.
"They had the adrenaline flowing through them; they were really amped up and wanted to get a victory tonight," said Wildcats' head coach Lindsey Mace. "They didn't let anything hit the floor, they were all over the place and they are smart, smart volleyball players."
But the rush died down in the second set and the visiting Tigers regrouped, winning the next three sets to win the match, 24-26, 25-9, 25-22, 25-17.
"It seemed like the adrenaline was gone in Game 2," Mace said. "We were tired and slow. But in Game 1, we played like the team I think they are."
Mikayla Tipcke paced Goodhue's offense with 39 set assists and 33 digs, adding three kills and a pair of blocks. Mikayla Miller added 18 kills and 23 digs, and Emilee Roschen patrolled the back line with 40 digs.
On Saturday, the Wildcats play in the Byron invitational, taking on Bloomington Kennedy in their first match.
