Volleyball: Bombers hold off Hayfield
Red Wing Minnesota 2760 North Service Drive / P.O. Box 15 55066

When mistakes are few and far between, stats can pile up in a hurry during a volleyball match. Case in point was Tuesday night in Cannon Falls where the Bombers toppled Hayfield in four sets, 30-28, 25-15, 18-25, 25-21.

Among several eye-popping numbers for the Bombers were Becca Vandenheuvel’s 33 digs, Caroline Bowen’s 20 digs and Sami Cromer’s 15 digs. That’s 68 digs compared to the Vikings’ 89 points. Cromer also had a team-high four ace serves which helped the Bombers to the easier second-set win.

“You look at some of the numbers some of the kids put up, it was a lot,” said Cannon Falls head coach Melissa Huseth. “This match was hard fought from beginning to end. The second set was a little lopsided because of some aces, but all of the rallies were long and hard-fought.”

Some of the other stats, offensively and defensively, were just as noticeable as the others above. Hailey Huseth finished with 24 set assists, seven kills and two aces, Lydia Franken dished out 21 assists to go along with two aces, and Katie Noble pounded a team-high 16 kills and six ace blocks.

“It was a fun match. I thought both teams fought until the end, and I thought we were really making some strong plays at the end. You could see that we were going to finish the match,” Huseth said. “And as well as everyone played (Tuesday), Katie Noble had a fantastic night. She really stepped up.”

The Bombers (4-1 overall, 3-0 HVL) will visit Kenyon-Wanamingo Thursday.
