Village asked to review beer sales at Pierce County Fair
The Ellsworth Village Board Health and License and Welfare Committee will meet with the Pierce County Fair Board to discuss the possibility of beer sales on the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Ellsworth.
The Village Board learned of the proposed meeting Monday. A date has yet to be set.
The Fair Board requested a meeting to see if the village would be willing to amend and/or rescind three village ordinances prohibiting intoxicating liquor or fermented malt beverage in open containers in or upon the Pierce County Fairgrounds during the fair.
A similar attempt to do this was made several years ago and caused a great deal of controversy, as have attempts to regulate beer sales around the fairgrounds. A beer garden has been in place next to the fairgrounds behind the car wash.
The board also had a discussion on a new skateboard park. The matter was referred it to the parks, recreation and development committee.
Monday's meeting included awarding the village garbage and recycling contract to Paul's Industrial Garage of Hager City. The new service begins Jan. 1, 2013, and runs to Dec. 31, 2015. Residents will not have to separate recyclables under the new service. Fees will be based on container size.
