Vacant home burns in Welch
Fire consumed a house at 1815 Chayka St. Saturday morning and spread to a nearby vehicle, Red Wing Fire Department reported.
Firefighters responded shortly shortly after 10 a.m. to the fire. They determined the house was vacant after completing a preliminary search and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes, Capt. Dan Simonson said in a statement.
The house is a total loss, he said. They saved a nearby shed.
Five full-time and four paid-on-call firefighters worked the scene for more than four hours. The fire's cause is under investigation, the statement said.
The property owner was not immediately identified.
