UPDATED: Girls track and field: Schnaith is lone Winger to qualify for finals

Red Wing junior Abbey Schnaith came out as the only Wingers competitor to advance to the finals of the Section 1AA championships. Her mark of 2 minutes, 25 seconds in the 800-meter run Thursday at Lakeville South High School made that possible.

"I thought she ran a really smart race," Red Wing coach Jesse Nelson said, noting there were difficult wind conditions runners had to deal with. "She came out and strategically ran the race."

Junior Maggie Jonas turned in another solid performance in the discus. Her best throw measured 114 feet, 3 inches. That was good for eighth place and a point for Red Wing.

Andrea Lafond, another junior, finished ninth in the high jump with a leap of 5-1.

Lauren Boldt earned four top-six finishes at the section meet last year, but the senior elected not to compete at this year's meet. The senior said she wanted to instead focus on her last day of high school and graduation festivities.

Red Wing travels back to Lakeville South High School Saturday for the relay finals and the individual finals as well.
