Update: Waters rising around Goodhue County, Ribs and Bibs cancelled
Goodhue County is one of 35 Minnesota Counties included in an emergency declaration Thursday by Gov. Mark Dayton in response to flooding and other problems related to heavy rainfall in recent days.
Public Works crews had begun sandbagging in Cannon Falls Thursday afternoon, Goodhue County Emergency Management Director Diane Richter-Biwer said.
Red Wing Lions Club also announced that Sunday's Ribs and Bibs fundraiser is cancelled because of high water at Colvill Park. Anticiapted flood levels will shut down city services at the park which are necessary for the event.
Lion President Dave Watson said money from pre-sale tickets will be refunded.
The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office is advising boaters to use caution on the Mississippi River due to strong currents from the high water. A no-wake restriction also went into effect on Lake Byllesby.
Dayton’s executive order makes a range of state resources available and engages state agencies in response efforts.
The national weather service is forecasting more rain and thunderstorms during the evening hours.
