Fairview Red Wing Emergency Director Jane Gisslen said both patients were in "serious but stable" condition this afternoon. She said it was possible one or both women would be transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul following evaluations.

According to the State Patrol, Pruitt's 1996 Geo Prism was westbound on County Road 18 attempting to turn south on Highway 61 while Weir's 2001 Mercury Marquis was headed north on Highway 61. The vehicles collided in the intersection, troopers said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
