Two children killed in Oak Grove Township crash
Two children were killed and three other people were hurt after a truck and an SUV collided Thursday in Oak Grove Township at the intersection of Hwy. 35 and 468th Ave.
A 12-year-old girl in the SUV died at the scene and another passenger — a 5-year-old girl — was pronounced dead later at a hospital. The crash happened about 3:40 p.m. Pierce County authorities did not immediately say how it occurred, and the victims' names were not released pending notification of relatives.
A 32-year-old Centuria woman was driving the SUV. She and two of her other passengers — ages 3 and 5 — were taken to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul for treatment. The three people in the other vehicle, a box truck, escaped injury.
Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove said road conditions were not to blame for the crash. She said the SUV driver was the mother of two of the children and the other two kids are relatives.
Three airlift helicopters arrive at the scene to transport the injured.
Also at the scene were personnel and vehicles from Prescott and Ellsworth fire departments, Prescott and River Falls ambulance departments, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
