A semitrailer caught fire on Highway 61 just south of Wacouta Road Tuesday morning, causing closures in both directions while emergency crews extinguished the blaze and worked to clear the roadway of debris.

Red Wing Fire Department received the call at 11:27 a.m. and the fire was put out in approximately eight minutes after firefighters arrived on scene, acting shift Capt. Matt Lenz said in a release.

The fire was contained to the truck area and started in the engine compartment, Lenz said. Firefighters were able to save the trailer, which was fully loaded with wheat. The truck was a complete loss, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported and two fire engines were used on scene.

Six full-time firefighters worked at the scene for more than 90 minutes. Highway 61 re-opened after being closed for less than two hours.
