Trost sets course record at Pine Island Invite
Cannon Falls sophomore Emi Trost set a course record Thursday with her winning time of 14 minutes, 42 seconds at the Pine Island Invite in Pine Island.
Trost, who is ranked third in Class A, shattered the old mark set of 15:24, set by Kingsland's Nicole Calebrese in the 4-kilometer race.
"She thought she could get the course record and she did," Bombers head coach Ben Schopp said. "She's very humble and loves running in the cooler weather."
Cannon Falls finished fifth as a team out of eight teams with 136 points. United South Central won the meet with 41 points. Rochester Lourdes placed second with 56 and Farmington took third with 58. Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo finished fourth with 110 points.
Bombers eighth-grader Katherine Hoffman took 28th in 17:13.2 and eighth-grader Emma Thomley followed in 29th place and a time of 17:14.6. Junior Amber Edwards finished 36th in 17:35.7 and sophomore Ashleigh Dralle took 42nd in 17:54.9.
ZM/KW sophomore Katie Bohn led the team with a 15th-place finish and a time of 16:31.2. Freshman Tianna Beniak took 16th in 16:44.6 and sophomore Emily Karl placed one back at 17th in 16:47.1. Senior Aubrie Ades took 30th in 17:19.6 and seventh-grader Maddie Patterson took 32nd in 17:23.8.
Boys place seventh
The Cannon Falls boys team took seventh at the eight-team field with 171 points.
Farmington won the meet with 40 points, Rochester Lourdes took second with 63 and ZM/KW placed third with 66 points.
Bombers eighth-grader Bjorn Pearson led the team with a 29th-place finish and a time of 18:56.9 in the 5-kilometer race. Freshman Karl Ritzman followed with a 32nd-place finish and a time of 19:01.3, senior Jordan Erlanson placed 35th in 19:32.1, junior Tyler Wilson took 37th in 19:36.9 and senior Connor Bennett took 38th in 19:53.
Warneke takes second for ZM/KW
ZM/KW senior Nathan Warneke took second at the meet in a time of 16:35.4 and three of his teammates placed in the top 15 to lead ZM/KW to a third-place finish.
Sophomore James Drettwan took 11th in 17:33.5, sophomore Ben Nystuen finished 12th in 17:48.6 and senior Mitchel Lexvold placed 13th in 17:49.9. Freshman Micah Grove rounded out the top five with a 28th-place finish and a time of 18:54.9.
