Teacher evaluations pilot project begins
In a response to state legislation that will go into effect for the 2014-15 school year, Red Wing will test a new evaluation pilot program for teachers this year.
Red Wing School District is implementing a three-piece program that includes a teacher practice pilot, student learning outcomes pilot and a student engagement pilot. Director of Teaching and Learning Joe Jezierski gave a report Monday to the School Board.
"Right now this is a pilot. We're trying this and we'll see how it works," Jezierski said. "As an administration team this is something we're committed to."
New legislative requirements for the evaluation of principals began with the new school year. These will be linked directly to the teacher evaluation model.
Putting consistency and accountability in place, which is what this new evaluation program is designed to do, is a good thing, Jezierski said.
The program, along with other evaluations, must include a formative and summit assessment. The formative assessment involves people being at the schools and seeing what's going on, Jezierski said.
