STOCKHOLM -- More than 100 regional artists selected by jury will display and sell their creations at the 35th annual Stockholm Art Fair, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 in Stockholm Village Park on Lake Pepin. The event will be held rain or shine.

"This out-of-the-ordinary art fair has been a 'happening' in Stockholm for 35 years, and continues to be an event that people from a wide area look forward to year after year," spokesman Linda Day said. "The ambiance of the small town of Stockholm, the high quality of artwork, good food and excellent music make it a perfect summer experience."

The annual art fair poster for 2008 features a design by Pepin artist John Meyer. The watercolor depicts Stockholm in winter.

Meyer grew up in Iowa and studied at the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, but made his living for many years in construction, surveying and engineering.

Meyer is known primarily for his paintings of area river towns and scenes of the hills and landscapes around Lake Pepin, but his work is also a travelogue of the places he visits. His paintings can be seen at Stockholm Pottery and Mercantile.

The art fair also will feature original music by regional artists. Performing will be:

• 10 a.m. -- Trapper Schoepp Band, young indie-folk singers from Ellsworth

• 11 a.m. -- Mike Quick, acoustic folksinger from Eleva, Wis.

• 12 p.m. -- Patchouli, folk duo from Maiden Rock

• 1:30 p.m. -- Cam Waters, singer/songwriter now living in Rochester

• 2:30 p.m. -- Bryce Black, poet Timothy Young and Yata from Arkansaw, Wis., and Bloomington, Minn., celebrating two new CDs, "Sheer Caffeine" by Black and Yata, and "Snow Has Fallen" by Young and Yata.

• 4 p.m. -- Lehto and Wright, Celtic/American folk musicians from Minneapolis

During the day, the Lake Pepin Art and Design Center will offer children's activities in the park.

Unique food choices will be offered, including grilled portabella mushroom sandwiches, wild rice bratwurst, Greek food, locally raised organic chicken and beef on pita bread, homemade ice cream, and coffee.
