Stay tuned: Ray Sands and the Polka Dots will grace TV screens again
Ray Sands and the Polka Dots will perform on the national TV program “Mollie B Polka Party,” airing on RFD-TV and FamilyNet throughout the year.
The local polka band plays 1 p.m. Sunday Aug. 10 at the Medina Entertainment Center in Medina, Minnesota.
The four-day taping of live performances features several Midwest polka band.
“They called for the top bands in the area,” Sands said, “and we got chosen.”
Sands has been a member of the widely popular local polka group for 65 years now — and still counting.
“I’ve been in the band since its start in 1949,” he adds with a laugh, “It’s unbelievable.”
Sands found himself playing the accordion at age 9, thanks to a musically inclined family. By age 11 he started in his family’s band, performing the “old-time” music of that era and he hasn’t stop playing.
“It’s a been a big part of my life,” he says of his polka music. “I would not have missed it for anything in the world. We’ve had a lot of fun playing over the years.”
Ray Sands and the Polka Dots are not new to the polka party broadcast. Sands explained the band has appeared on the former broadcast known as “Big Joe Polka Show.” However, this upcoming gig marks the first time on the “Mollie B Polka Party.”
With more than bands taking the stage, attendees will get the opportunity to sit up close and dance to the live music including polkas, big band numbers and waltzes.
“Mollie B Polka Party” airs twice weekly including 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 p.m. Saturdays for a one-hour HD traditional music and variety series on RFD-TV.
The show also runs twice a week on FamilyNet. See it 9 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. Thursdays.
Tickets for the event can be purchased through the RFD-TV website at www.rfdtv.com or by calling 402-991–6920.
