Spotlight: Go watch 'The Nutcracker'
Get into the holiday spirit with a performance of "The Nutcracker" presented by the Continental Ballet Company at the Sheldon Theatre.
Whether a seasonal tradition or the first time at the show, "The Nutcracker" can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages, organizers said.
The ballet tells the story of a young girl named Clara and her toy nutcracker. The children at a Christmas party receive the nutcracker toy, which is ignored by all except Clara. She takes a liking to it, but her brother Fritz breaks the toy.
After sneaking out of bed during the night to check on the nutcracker, Clara falls asleep and dreams of him coming to life. She witnesses battles, dances and a land of sweets before waking the next morning.
The ballet includes classic musical holiday favorites composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, such as "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies."
The Continental Ballet Company presents professional classical ballet performances and outreach programs in the suburban Twin Cities area and throughout Minnesota.
Tickets are $27.50 for adults and $17.50 for students. For Friends of the Sheldon members, tickets are $23.75 for adults and $15.25 for students.
