Softball: Wingers crush the ball in non-conference win
From the onset of Friday’s non-conference game, Red Wing softball got to showcase its power.
Hailey Kuhl and McKenzie Cota each hit home runs for the Wingers, who snapped a three-game losing skid with an 11-0 victory in Bloomington.
Cota showed off her home-run swing in the first inning, cracking a two-run shot to give Red Wing an early lead. Cota finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
With the Wingers up 3-0 after three innings, Kuhl belted her third home run of the season in the fourth. Her three-run homer sparked a five-run inning for Red Wing as Kuhl finished the night 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
“She’s really hitting the ball well right now,” said Wingers head coach Jon Bohmbach. “She popped her last one up, otherwise all her hits tonight were hit hard.”
Jordan Munson chipped in with a hit and three RBI. Hannah Walch got the win on the rubber, going six innings and striking out three, compared to two walks.
Red Wing (6-6) hopes to continue its winnings ways at home today, taking on Menomonie (Wisconsin).
