Softball: Goodhue slips by Pine Island
Goodhue overcame Pine Island's late-inning comeback to win 7-6 Monday in Pine Island.
The game was played at the Panthers' junior varsity field due to flooding at their varsity field but the Wildcats were the home team.
Goodhue led 6-2 into the sixth inning but Pine Island got a pinch-hit 3-RBI triple by Taylor Schroeder and pass ball to tie the game.
The Wildcats (4-4, 2-3 HVL) responded with a leadoff triple by Paige Gadient in the bottom of the sixth inning and a sacrifice fly by Laurie Pearson to pick up the winning run. Pearson was the winning pitcher, throwing all seven innings. Gadient went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Lexie Kennedy was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Sharece Hahn finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Goodhue had 11 hits in the victory.
The Panthers collected eight hits and committed three errors. Molly Shelton went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead Pine Island.
The Wildcats host Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday.
