Softball: Cougars get by Cotter

With just four games left in the regular season, Zumbrota-Mazeppa is started its stretch run to the playoffs with a 5-1 non-conference victory over Winona Cotter on Monday.

The Cougars lashed out with 12 hits in the game, led by Morgan Olson’s 3-for-4 performance that was capped off with a double and a run scored. Amber Gehrke finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored while Carley Henning and Hailey Dykes each came out with two hits.

Gehrke started in the circle, and earned the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings while giving up seven hits and an earned run to go with four strikeouts. Olson pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up zero hits and striking out one. Olson got out of a jam in the fifth, stranding two runners on base in a 3-1 game.

Z-M will close the season with La Crescent on Tuesday, Lake City on Wednesday and Cannon Falls on Friday.
