Softball: 2012 All-Area Second Team
Amanda Woodward, senior, shortstop,
Woodward had a .413 batting average to go with 14 runs and 26 hits. She was an all-conference award winner and was named the team's defensive player of the year.
sophomore, pitcher, outfield, third base, Cannon Falls
Franken shared pitching duties with Ripley and still managed 100 strikeouts in 57 innings with a 2.83 ERA. Franken hit .472 and was the team's offensive MVP. Franken earned all-conference and all-section honors.
Elle Anderson, senior, catcher/third base, Red Wing
Anderson hit .281 while splitting time between catcher and third base. Anderson scored eight runs and had a .431 on-base percentage. Anderson was a captain this season and was named all-conference honorable mention.
Serena Hoisington, freshman, pitcher, Ellsworth
Hoisington led Ellsworth with a .333 batting average, finished second on the team with a .433 slugging percentage and led the team with a .564 on-base percentage. Hoisington won two games this season, had an ERA of 2.00 and was named all-conference honorable mention.
Taylor Nelson, senior, outfielder, Ellsworth
Nelson was a four-year starter for the Panthers and hit in the No. 2 spot this season. Nelson led the team in stolen bases with 13 and five sacrifices. Nelson had a .284 batting average and finished third on the team with 19 hits. Nelson roamed center field for the past three season and showed the ability to move runners over and swipe a bag when needed.
Kayla Meixner, junior, catcher, Pepin-Alma
Kayla Meixner hit .391 with a team-leading 22 walks in 21 games for Pepin-Alma this season. The junior also tallied 25 hits, including three doubles and two triples for the Eagles while stealing a team-high 11 bases. Meixner, a catcher, scored 23 runs and had 12 RBI.
Riley Harrison, junior, shortstop, Ellsworth
Harrison had big shoes to fill when she took over for four-time all-conference player Kayla Christopherson this season and did so capably with a .313 batting average and a team-high 19 RBI. Harrison slugged .418 and had an on-base percentage of .493. Harrison was named all-conference after showing good range and a strong arm.
sophomore, second baseman, Z-M
Henning belted six home runs this year and drove in 21 runs with a .377 batting average. Henning scored 28 runs and was named all-conference.
Nasha Reuter, senior, outfielder, Z-M
Reuter, a three-year starter, went from catcher to outfielder this season and hit .329 with three home runs and 14 runs. Reuter is a career .280 hitter who earned all-conference awards in 2011 and 2012 and was a member of the all-section team in 2011.
