Shirley M Strand, 88
Shirley Marion Strand, 88, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Hudson Hospital.
She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Maiden Rock, Wis., to Easton and Maude (Kellogg) Hovde. She attended school in Minneapolis, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. She then moved back to Wisconsin. She married Roy V. Strand, on March 18, 1944, and the couple farmed in the Maiden Rock area until March of 1970. She and her husband then moved to Hager City and she worked for the Ellsworth Community School System until 1988, when they moved to Red Wing. Roy died in May of 1994. Since June 6, 2013, she has resided at Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson.
Shirley was an active member of the Hartland United Methodist Church and the H.M.W. organization. She was an organist for the church for more than 20 years, and also led the church choir. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, baking, and doing crafts.
She is survived by her three daughters, Norrine (Richard) Howard of Stillwater, Valerie Payne of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Karen (Boyd) Nelson of Prescott, Wis.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with Stephen Ottman officiating. Spring burial will be at the Hartland Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
