Seuss' who's who of muses find uses through ruses
Some have done it for years, for others this will be their first time. Some did it for the chance to be something new while some simply wanted to be with their friends.
Regardless of how or why they happened to make it to the stage, a group of Twin Bluff Middle School students will warm up their vocal chords and don their costumes for their performance of “Seussical the Musical, Jr.” this weekend.
The message of the play is to accept yourself and others, said Erin Jezierski, who plays the role of Gertrude. Everyone is equal, everyone is different, she said.
The play pulls a myriad of characters from many of Dr. Seuss' books from Horton the Elephant and the Whos from Whoville to Gertrude McFuzz and Mayzie LaBird.
Allison Callstrom, who plays JoJo, said she has enjoyed the chance to be a different person on stage as well as being with her friends.
Sometimes rehearsals felt like a three-ring circus, Jezierski said, but once everyone settled in it all went relatively smoothly.
This is the first acting experience for Victoria Hanson, who plays Sour Kangaroo. Hanson said at first she was nervous to sing in front of everyone, but now she can’t wait to continue acting in high school.
“I was really glad it was a musical,” Jezierski said, adding the middle school plays aren’t typically musicals.
She said working with director Peter Mol, assistant director Heather Finholm, and everyone else has been a great experience.
