Book Club for Women

The group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday Jan. 3 with Jane Whiteside and talk about “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens.

Silver Tones

The senior choir group Silver Tones will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 7 at Pier 55.

Become a tax volunteer

Are you good with numbers? Become a tax volunteer. You will work directly with taxpayers, filling out returns and helping them seek a refund. Experience is not necessary. Training starts in January. Call to sign up.

Travel to the Minnesota History Center

Step back in time to an era of flappers, suffragists, bootleggers and temperance workers at “American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition.” Pier 55’s Trips, Travels and Tours program heads Thursday Jan. 16 to the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

The exhibit was created by the National Constitution Center.

Cost is $35 for members, $40 for nonmembers. Registration and payment is due by Monday Jan. 6.

Play games

The following games will be played: Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday Jan. 2; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Chess – 1 p.m. Wednesdays

Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.

Jordan Towers

Jordan Towers are located in the 400 block of West Fifth Street in downtown Red Wing. All events listed are held at Jordan Tower I or II unless otherwise noted.

SEMCAC senior dining

SEMCAC senior dining is located in the Sailstad Room of Jordan Towers 2. The Fifth Street doors open from 11 a.m. to noon. Suggested donation for a meal is $3.50 if you are over 60, $6 if you are under 60. Please call 651-388-9875 at least 24 hours in advance if you plan on joining.
