Search for Myhre still ongoing
The status of the investigation into the disappearance of Bay City's Mark Myhre is still ongoing
The Monroe County, Florida Sheriff's Department, which is handling the investigation of Mhyre's disappearance, considers it a missing persons case but reports no new leads.
Mark Myhre, 62, was reported missing by family members since Christmas Day when he went sailing alone aboard his new boat The Galilean. The boat was found a week later beached at Elliott Key near Biscayne National Park just south of Miami.
Coast Guard units along with units and personnel from Miami-Dade were involved in the search which extended all the way down the Florida Keys. News sources in the Keys say such searches for missing persons usually last from 36-48 hours and very thorough invovling several Coast Guard units from the Miami Beach and Keys stations
Sources also say there was no evidence of foul play or damage to the boat or that of anyone leaving the boat when it beached either.
Myhre reportedly last spoke with his son Chad on Christmas Day while the boat was sailing off the Middle Keys. Chad Myhre told WPLG-TV in Miami that his father had just purchased the Galilean in Fort Myers and was sailing to Key West and up the Keys on a solo "shakedown" cruise. Myhre was reportedly going to sail the boat in the Caribbean Sea and to the Panama Canal.
