SE Technical poised to get new president
As Jim Johnson, Minnesota State College–Southeast Technical president, prepares for retirement. the Board of Trustees prepares to name a new president.
Steven Rosenstone, chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, will give his recommendation for the position at the March 19 MnSCU Board of Trustees meeting and, pending board approval, the new president will be named.
Three semifinalists are under consideration for the position. The candidates are Dorothy Duran, who served as vice president for academic affairs at Iowa Western Community College since 2006, Russ Rothamer, who served as vice president of academic affairs at Cocinino Community College in Arizona since 2012, and Laura Urban, who has been the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Gateway Community and Technical College in Kentucky since 2010.
All candidates visited the Red Wing and Winona campuses between Feb. 24 and 28.
The newly named president will make an appearance at both the Winona and Red Wing campuses of Southeast Technical on March 20. The presentations are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Winona and 1 p.m. in Red Wing.
The president is expected to take over in July.
Candidates were recommended by a search advisory committee which included students, faculty, staff and community leaders and was chaired by Peggy Kennedy, president of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
