SE-Tech fire put out by sprinklers
A fire at Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical early Saturday morning was extinguished by the building's automatic sprinkler system, according to the Red Wing Fire Department.
The department reported that it received a call at 12:07 a.m. reporting a fire sprinkler alarm at the college. Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within seven minutes of getting the call and discovered that a fire in the band instrument repair section of the building had been put out by the sprinklers. Firefighters assisted in clearing smoke from the building and shutting down the sprinkler system.
There was minor structural damage to the wall and ceiling tiles in the classroom and fire damaged a wall-mounted humidifier, the fire department reported. There was some water damage to equipment and supplies in the classroom.
"The presence of a working sprinkler system and alarm system made what may have been a tragedy into a moderate inconvenience," the fire department said in a news release.
