School meal prices go up
ELLSWORTH - Back-to-school items dominated the Ellsworth School Board agenda Monday.
The board approved increasing school meal prices. Breakfast prices for the coming school term will be $1.60, up from $1.50. Lunch prices will be $2.20 at the elementary level and $2.40 for grades 5 to 12), also up by 10 cents.
Supt. Barry Cain said the increase was necessary because of rising commodity costs.
The board also accepted a public records request fee of 15 cents per page, requiring prepayment for requests with an estimated cost of $5 or more.
Fees for various academic and athletic programs at the middle and high schools will stay the same, upon the recommendation of administration.
An adjustment in the mileage rate to 55.5 cents per mile was OK'd by the board.
An agreement with the Spring Valley School District to have students from there educated in Ellsworth was accepted, as in the past. Cain said Spring Valley schools will count the students involved for membership purposes, but pay Ellsworth tuition. No increase in local staff will be needed.
