Sachen, 50, grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1980. He is currently a project manager at Red Wing Shoe Co. He also serves on the Red Wing Port Authority board and the Harbor Commission and is involved with Red Wing Youth Hockey and Red Wing Youth Baseball.

"I really believe Red Wing is poised for some substantial progress in the near future and I want to remain part of it and facilitate the opportunities," Sachen said of why he's running for mayor.

Red Wing Ignite, the downtown business plan, Mississippi National Golf Links and silica sand mining are among what Sachen highlighted as opportunities for the city to explore.

Stone, a manager at Gemini Incorporated -- a maker of signs and plaques in Cannon Falls -- filed Tuesday afternoon. He said he is running because he has been asked by various community members to do so.

"They assumed that I would be a good ambassador for the city," he said.

Stone, 647 21st St., moved to Red Wing from Maine 13 years ago, he said, when his company transferred him to St. Paul. He said his main concern for Red Wing is education.

"The city of Red Wing would have my heart and soul," Stone, 53, said. "If someone is better, I would stand behind that person. But from people I've been speaking to, I'm the best choice. ... I look forward to the opportunity working with the Red Wing community as an ambassador and educator. I have a positive outlook towards the future of this city."

Dan Bender, 1729 Red Fox Drive, was the first to file Tuesday morning.

Former Mayor Dennis Egan officially resigned as of April 1. His resignation came after concerns about a conflict of interest were raised when he took a position with the Minnesota Industrial Sand Council.

Filing is open at Red Wing City Hall until 5 p.m. April 16. The special election will be June 11.
