Roy Schafer, 92
Roy Henry Schafer, age 92, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing.
He was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Belvidere Township to Louis and Anna (Diercks) Schafer. He graduated from Goodhue High School, and then attended the U of M Agriculture School. He married Marian Kehren Feb. 3, 1945, in St. Paul. They moved to the family farm where they farmed until 1957, when they moved to Red Wing. Roy worked at Red Wing Marine, Tomfohr Implement, Tel-Elect, and finally at Welch Ski Village, where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Roy enjoyed fishing, camping, working with metal, reading, and old time music.
He is survived by his two children, Clayton "Duffy" (Dianna) Schafer and Sharleen Williams both of Red Wing; one grandson, Troy Schafer of Red Wing; sisters, Janet Christopherson and Jane Scheffler both of Red Wing; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; brother, Earl; brother-in-laws Karl Scheffler and Allen Christopherson; sister-in-law, Jane Schafer; and nephew Gerald Christopherson.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.
