River Bend hosting winter solstice celebration Dec. 21
River Bend Nature Center will host a winter solstice celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 21.
Families are invited to celebrate the shortest day of the year which means the days start getting longer.
The program will start around a small bonfire with a cookout supper that will include hotdogs (veggie alternate provided), chips, carrots and warm cider. This will take place in the Kay Janky outdoor amphitheater which is a short walk behind the main building.
Next, participants will walk off the meal with a night hike and return to the bonfire and toast marshmallows and share winter stories.
Cost is $5 per person for members and $7 per person for nonmembers. Children under 2 and not eating the meal are free. Pre-registration is required by Dec. 19.
River Bend Nature Center is located on the east side of Faribault off Highway 60. Follow the brown nature center signs.
