Richard M. Anderson, age 78, of Hastings, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, at his home.
Richard was born April 7, 1935, in Red Wing, Minn., to Conrad and Ruth (Fjerstad) Anderson. He was a graduate of Red Wing High School, class of 1953, and attended two years of college. Richard married Ardyce Lomker, on March 24, 1956, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hastings. He was career Air Force, receiving the Bronze Star for actions taken in Vietnam and retiring in 1978. He then worked with UPS in Eagan, retiring in 1997. Together with his wife, they thoroughly enjoyed fifteen years of traveling throughout the country with their fifth wheel. He lived his life with the motto of his Air Force heritage, "Family, God and Country".
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Donald.
Richard is survived by his wife Ardyce; three children Allan Anderson of Hastings, Lizanne (Brian) McClellan of Richfield, and Conrad (Carol) Anderson of Minneapolis; four grandchildren Colton Pratt, Bailey Pratt, Courtney Anderson, and Kyra Anderson; one sister Judy Burow of Hager City, Wis.; also nieces and nephews.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Zimpelmann will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct.12, at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church, 202 W. 8th St., Hastings. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings, and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment, with Military honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210 will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings.
Pallbearers are his nieces and nephews Jon Anderson, Greg Anderson, Sue Santrach, Kim Mensinger, Todd Burow and Tony Burow. Richards four grandchildren are serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
