St. John's installs new teachers

Two teachers are joining the faculty and staff at St. John's Lutheran School in Red Wing this fall. Installation for both of the new teachers will take place Sunday Aug. 11 at the10 a.m. service in the church.

Karla Opperman will teach Little Blessings Preschool and kindergarten at St. John's. Opperman graduated with a double major in elementary and early childhood education from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. Her student teaching history consists of New London, Wis., Onalaska, Wis., and Redwood Falls, Minn.

Holly Lentz will teach first and second grade. Lentz comes to Red Wing from St. John's Lutheran School in Mukwonago, Wis., where she taught German and preschool. She also holds an elementary education degree from Martin Luther College.

Sunday supper will be served

Sunday Supper/Loaves and Fishes is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone. It is being served at 5 p.m. Sunday Aug. 11 at the First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Teens leads First Covenant service

First Covenant Church will have one combined worship service at 9 a .m. Sunday in the Family Life Center to recap what the children learned at vacation Bible school this week . A team from "Teens for Christ" will lead the service as they share thoughts from this week's theme "Kingdom Chronicles — Be Strong in the Lord!"

Churches collect items for food shelves

Several local congregations gather specific food items each month to help stock the food shelves.

English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, is asking people to share the bounty from their gardens. Those items go to the Pierce County Food Shelf.

St. Ansgar's Lutheran and First English Lutheran churches in Cannon Falls are collecting several items including boxed and canned meals.

Bible study brunch planned

St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls, will hold a Bible study brunch for all women at 10 a.m. Aug. 22. The study will be taken from the July/August Gather magazine and is titled "Do We Have Enough — All Ate and Were Filled."

Fresh fruit and muffins will be served.
