Red Wing schools to start after 8
Red Wing School District will move to a one-tier transportation system next fall and school start will change as a result.
The School Board voted unanimously to approve transportation changes as proposed, which will move the start times for all schools to between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Supt. Karsten Anderson said there are still two aspects which present some obstacles: Some Twin Bluff students will be dropped off 20 minutes before classes start, and earlier starts will be difficult for district employees who have other jobs.
Anderson said he still recommended moving forward. Vice Chair Janie Farrar agreed.
“This is a big change in the right direction,” she said.
Anderson said he anticipates starting the school year with 25 buses, which could be reduced to 24 at some point.
“I’m assuming we’re going to start the year with 25 buses, so there will be an increase in cost,” he said. “But we need to make sure things run as smoothly as possible with such big change.”
The new transportation system is expected to increase cost anywhere from $10,000 to $55,000 per year, which is dependent upon the number of buses used.
