Health clinic update
“I think it’s been one of our most successful enterprises,” Johnson said.
The capacity goal is 80 percent, he said, and the clinic was utilized by approximately 40 percent of eligible participants since June of last year, which is typical of clinics in their first year of operation.
The clinic’s 1,777 visits resulted in an estimated savings of 2,667 production hours for the district and an estimated savings of $266,550, according to HealthPartners, which is close to the $284,417 first-year cost to run the clinic. The paid timeoff hours saved by employees was estimated at 2,667.
Johnson said the district will continue to explore is opening the clinic to all employees. Currently, only employees and dependents enrolled under the district’s insurance plan are eligible to use the clinic.
Site handbooks approved
Handbooks for both elementary schools, Twin Bluff Middle School and Red Wing High School were approved Monday with the most notable change coming in the attendance policy for the high school.
Supt. Karsten Anderson said questions regarding how absences were handled are addressed by new RWHS Principal Todd Herber in the 2014-15 handbook.
“Instead of having every single appointment needing some sort of documentation, Mr. Herber and his staff will work with those who have excessive absences, which I think is a nice compromise,” Anderson said. “We want to make sure our kids are coming to class, that they aren’t skipping out for other reasons, but we want to be reasonable, too, in how we approach that.”
Tower View Alternative High School has its own handbook as well, he said, and Jillynne Raymond, Goodhue County Education District assistant director, is working to finalize it with Tower View staff.
The only significant change anticipated, Anderson said, is the required attendance percentage, which will most likely increase to 62 percent from 54 percent.
“Personally, I think it should be higher than that but that’s going to take a much larger discussion,” he added.
In other news …
•The restrictive procedures plan, which needs to be reviewed every year, was passed unanimously with no discussion Monday. The plan spells out how staff restrain or isolate students in an emergency.
•The board also passed a resolution dedicating time during the Dec. 1 meeting to have the annual Truth in Taxation hearing.
•In a 5-0 roll-call vote the board passed a resolution relating to the election of School Board members and calling the school district general election. Election Day is Nov. 4.

Recall from unrequested leave: Courtney Snyder, computer teacher at Twin Bluff Middle School, effective 2014-15 school year.
Three-year unpaid leave: Jen Grove, special education teacher at RWHS, effective 2014-15 school year.
FMLA: Ruth Beyers, cook at Sunnyside Elementary School, effective Aug. 15 through Oct. 6.
Resignation: Heater St. Dennis, Kid’s Junction, effective Aug. 4; Emily Holst, assistant lead for Kid’s Junction, effective July 24; Brittney Lindenfelser, Title I aide at Sunnyside Elementary School, effective July 30; Greg Domke, lead grounds districtwide, effective Aug. 25.
Retirement: Susan Gronvall, Title I education aide at Burnside Elementary School, effective July 1; Cheryl Riegelman, media/tech assistant at Twin Bluff Middle School, effective Aug. 29.
Janie Farrar and Emily Baldwin were not at Monday’s meeting, which lasted approximately one hour.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 2 in the Community Education conference room. However, with facility planning workshops set for the first meeting of the month, the meeting could be moved to better accommodate community members who wish to attend.
